  • Medina Tours

  • 3 km
  • On foot or by bike

Route overview

  • Bab Doukkala Fountain
  • Step 1

Start from the Bab Doukkala mosque square. The fountain of the same name is located behind the mosque, part of a religious complex with the mosque, the Moorish bath, and latrines with a typical basin.
Follow the street to the right of the fountain, rue Arset Aouzane, characterized by the presence of riads, including the famous Denis Masson riad at Derb Zemrane.
Continue straight ahead to the Lbâcha Laglaoui palace, home to a museum and a riad. On the street, discover traditional craft fondouks (Tadlaoui, Alamri, Almizane, and
Kharbouche), then turn left to arrive at the Sidi Abdelaziz fountain.

  • Step 2

Follow the street straight ahead to reach the Sidi Abdelaziz mausoleum. Continue passing under two arches until you reach a three-way intersection.
Take the street on the right, Amsaffah, where the fondouk Lbacha, although in ruins, still houses
some craftsmen. Continue along Amsaffah Street to discover the Haj Tahar fondouk on your left. At the end of the street, turn left onto Asouel Street, which also hosts the Alkhiria fondouk and the magnificent Melha fondouk gate. Just 50 meters from the street which goes to your right, you will find the Chrob-o-chouf fountain, inviting contemplation.

  • Step 3

Just after the Chrob-O-Chouf fountain, take the first street on the left, rue Dyour Saboune.

Continue straight until you reach Bab Taghzoute square. Opposite, an imposing door marks the entrance to the enclosure of the Sidi Bel Abbas mausoleum, mathematician, founder of the brotherhood of the blind and patron of the saints of Marrakech.
Formerly, the mausoleum housed the tomb of Averroes. On the way to the mausoleum, you will pass through the alley of Mjadliyah Street to the Sidi Bel Abbes Sebti Mausoleum Square, where the fountain of the same name is inside the courtyard on your right as you enter.

  • Step 4

To continue your route, follow the same path in the opposite direction from stage 3 until you reach Bab Taghzoute square. Then, take the narrow alley on the right after the Marhaba cinema, and at the end, turn left then right. After crossing an arch, turn left towards the mosque to arrive at a square where, on your left, stands a
fountain, and opposite, the Sidi Ben Slimane mausoleum.
It is important to note that, from Place Bab Taghzoute, the streets of the last part of this route are not clearly designated. So, carefully follow the right and left directions provided, or do not hesitate to ask passers-by, who will be happy to courteously guide you along the way.

  • Step 5

From the Sidi Benslimane fountain, retrace your steps to the passage under the zellije arch, where the neighborhood hammam and the bread oven are located.
Continue straight on the winding Sidi Ben Slimane street until you reach the square where the minaret of the Ben-Nacer mosque stands on your left. Continue straight, then turn right onto rue Riad Laarous.
Continue straight ahead to the large public square where the Riad Larousse fountain stands opposite the Med V college.
Palm grove:
A trip is possible from the Riad Larousse square by taking a small taxi to
visit the gardens (oasis) of the palm grove.
