Getting around Marrakech

To move around Marrakech and visit the city, you have various means: by car, on foot, by bike or by scooter.
If you are in a hurry or in hot weather, the ALSA bus network (urban and electric) of the city is well developed and inexpensive (4 dirhams per trip). Taxis are also very efficient.
On your arrival at Marrakech-Menara airport located 3 kilometers from the city, you have two choices to reach the center: ALSA urban network shuttles, bus n ° 19 running between 6 a.m. and 21:30 p.m., for a price of 30 dirhams (passage every 20 minutes approximately). You can also borrow the taxis, which are present at the airport day and night. Their prices are regulated and are displayed on a sticker. It will cost you 70 dirhams during the day and 100 dirhams at night, in the direction airport-city center. Conversely, prices are more negotiable.
La car rental is recommended if you are staying in the Palmeraie or if you are planning a few excursions outside Marrakech. Car rental agencies are numerous. Like international brands like Hertz, Sixt, Avis or Europcar, local agencies offer you quality service. The rental of a small car costs about 30 euros per day.

Getting around the region

If you need to travel within the country, there are several train lines that serve the major cities. However, the bus remains the cheapest means of transport, and local companies cover the whole territory.

Regular bus lines, from the ALSA company, allow you to reach towns located a few tens of kilometers from Marrakech. For longer distances, different providers offer trips to Essaouira, Safi, Agadir or Ouarzazate. The two main companies, Supr @ tours and CTM are particularly efficient. The first depends on the ONCF, the equivalent of the SNCF. The bus station is located in Bab Doukkala and it is in the hall of this one, that you will be able to obtain the tickets of bus.

By going to the taxi ranks (there are several, the main ones of which are located next to the Koutoubia, in Sidi Mimoun and Bab Doukkala), it is possible to hire a taxi by agreeing to the preliminary with the driver on the conditions. So-called "collective" taxis offer regular lines to towns around Marrakech. The conditions of transport are somewhat spartan due to the sharing of the taxi with other passengers and it is necessary to wait to reach the number of passengers to start.

In small groups of around ten people, you can discover points of interest by traveling by minibus. The service generally includes transport, but also photo stops and visits to cooperatives. Many agencies exist in the medina and in the new city of Guéliz. However, make sure of the sustainability of the business to avoid any inconvenience.
